Cleveland, June 1, 2001 - HMI Industries,
Inc., the manufacturer of Filter Queen indoor air filtration appliances,
has won the 2001 Direct Selling Association's (DSA) Education for Life
Award for building life skills in its associates through its salesforce
education and training. The award was presented at DSA's annual meeting
in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The Direct Selling Association is a national
trade association of leading firms that manufacture and distribute goods
and services sold directly to consumers. Each year it honors companies
that go beyond sales and training and educate employees with skills they
can use in life such as ethical, moral, and legal standards. Past recipients
include Avon Products, Inc., The Southwestern Company, and DK Family Learning.

and to be among the outstanding organizations that have received this award,"
said James R. Malone, Chairman of HMI Industries. "We are committed to
instilling in our associates skills that both make them better prepared

HMI received this year's Education for
Life Award for its continual commitment to the growth and development of
its associates who plan on opening their own distributorship through HMI's
The Edge Success Career Development Program. The program focuses on education
and training around "high risk" points in recruits' sales careers. The
program culminates with advanced training at HMI's innovative business
course, Business Management Institute (BMI) at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg,
Fla.
The six-day course at the College teaches
the direct sales entrepreneur financial management, human resource policy
and procedures, business planning development, leadership, community awareness
and personality assessment. "The success of the program is obvious in the
success of the graduates who continue to outperform their counterparts
who have not completed the course," said Malone. "The program continues
to have a lifetime impact on all participants."
